KYRGYZ KRAFTERS
The women call themselves the Dostuk Group. Dostuk means 'friendship' in Kyrgyz. They design and make crafts to help support themselves and their extended families. In a part of the world where women are regarded more as "property", it is ironic that the women are usually the backbone of the family unit. Most of the women's husbands have left them, so they must do whatever they can to clothe and feed their families.
Even with their own needs being many, the ladies always take 5% of any net income and put it into a Mercy Fund to help others less fortunate than themselves.
The opportunity to sell their crafts locally is very small, so they appreciate the partnership with Heavenly Treasures.
